"So many times - right here, in this kitchen - she told me the stories of who she was before she was mum. She’s stirred the words into every meal. And don’t get me wrong, there has been no greater honour than being my mother’s daughter. But I do wonder… Did I ruin her life?"

- Emily, Now & Then: I Think of You

Sorting through their memories of what once was, Emily and May find themselves in the space between half-packed moving boxes, steaming cups of tea, and the painful reality of growing up. As they reflect on shared experiences of daughterhood, motherhood, and the fear of what comes next, they must learn to move on, or face losing each other in the emptiness.

Now & Then: I Think Of You is Oida! Theatre’s newest production. Exploring the idea of what it means to grow up, let go, and discover your own identity, the piece follows two women- Emily and May- as they try to understand one another. Through storytelling and discussion, they travel into the past, uncovering that some cycles are harder to break than they first thought.

Last performed at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden on the 19th January 2024
